Miss Fiji Winner’s Title Marred By Race
5.18.2012
Torika Watters is not your typical Fijian beauty. With long light golden locks a narrow nose and light eyes, she represents a mixed race, a stark contrast of many women in that country. Yet, Watters is a new representation of European/Fijian decent which caused a huge uproar after she skidded past full-blooded Fijian contestants.
Extreme racial content had to be removed from the Miss Fijian Facebook page. In reference to her title, Watters told the Fiji Times,”I’ve agreed to relinquish it. I was becoming very uncomfortable with the situation.”

Tales of a Classic Chanel Bag
2.24.2012
What avid fashion lover do you know without a classic Chanel bag in their closet?
CoCo Chanel
Carrying bags in hand were common during the 1920′s and Coco Chanel was dispirited by this finding. She decided to make a bag allowing woman to use their arms more freely. This bore the 2.55 Chanel bag. In 1955 staple item was officially introduced to the world.
As for the structure of this bag, who knew the quilted pattern you see was inspired from the jackets that jockey’s wore at that time? The long shoulder straps you see were inspired by that of soldiers bags. Also, the Mademoiselle lock (CC) on today’s bags were only introduced in the 1980′s by designer Karl Lagerfield.
You will only find this bag made in calfskin, lambskin, silk and fur.

The Louis Vuitton Luggage Story

That is when award-winning designer Louis Vuitton decided to make the travel bag more alluring. He created a sleek, slender look which was airtight to shield apparel from bad weather. Within no time, his line of luggage became a hit.
Believe it or not, challenging impersonators behind faulty replications is nothing new to the Vuitton brand, apparently, this served as a nuisance back when the original items were created in 1854.

Powerful Story Behind Somalian Top Model
October 10, 2011

This Somalian beauty has quite a story to share for young girls everywhere. She was a victim of female genital mutilation at seven years old and two of her sisters were killed in Somalia’s civil war.
As stated in IMBD, she grew up as a child of three (girls) from parents of mixed African ancestry (her mother is Somali, and her father is Ethipoian). She is also a child of divorce, and has said that she used to live in a “shack, with no running water.” During the Civil War in Somalia, Fatima’s two sisters were killed, and when she was thirteen her mother immigrated to America with her. They lived in Boston, Massachusetts, for a time, and Fatima attended Bryn Mawr College in 2004, attended Spelman College in Atlanta, GA for one year in 2006, and then transferred to New York University, pre-med (also to study political science).
Her perseverance has landed her features with Elle, Ebony, Essence, CosmoGirl, and much more.

Kanye West: Hit or Miss at Paris Fashion Week?
10.3.2011
Acclaimed entertainer/rapper Kanye West was one of the most highly anticipated acts of Paris Fashion Week. Not everyone took him seriously upon announcement of his new line KW, but this recent collection has turned heads. From daring necklines to color blocked pants, there were quite a few surprises with his Ready to Wear Spring/Summer 2012 fashion show for Paris Fashion Week.
Everyone who is anyone made sure to be in attendance. From Anna dello Russo and Carine Roitfeld to Ciara to Lindsay Lohan and the Olsen twins. There was no shortage of star power for support. The press certainly held no punches regarding this new line.
Christina Brinkley of the Wall Street Journal described the KW collection (rife with furry backpacks, vulgarly plunging necklines and sloppy bandage dresses) as “Herve Leger meets Donald Trump.” There was no shortage of snide remarks. Style.com’s Tim Blanks reported, siting the collection as “a baby Balmain vision of womenswear.”
Who knows? Kanye West may just surprise us. This is his first official line after all.
Yulia Tymoshenko: Ukraine’s Fashion Forward Politician Behind Bars

Ukraine’s fashion forward politician known for wearing lace and her signature peasant braid, Yulia Tymoshenko, is behind bars for allegedly signing a gas contract to Russia without the government’s endorsement.
Prosecutors have asked the court to find the 50-year-old former prime minister guilty of abuse of office and sentence her to seven years in prison. Ms. Tymoshenko insists on her innocence and dismisses allegations. She says the trial is part of a political vendetta against her by President Viktor Yanukovych. She is one of nearly 400 officials under investigation for crimes allegedly committed while in office. Critics say the only cases that have come to trial involve political figures opposed to President Yanukovych.
Ms. Tymoshenko became a household name after ignoring the dress code, wearing ultra feminine attire in parliament. She has been often seen in stilettos and lacy attire, as opposed to grey and dark blue suits. She is also known for her actions in 2004 as a leader of Ukraine’s “Orange Revolution” street campaign, which forced the Supreme Court to toss out the results of a disputed presidential election won by Mr. Yanukovych. The two competed in last year’s presidential election, which Mr. Yanukovych won.
